We are seeing fashion and design focused specifically on children, and it goes beyond fun cartoon tshirts. Boys clothes in particular is seeing some big changes. They are beyond board shorts and into leather jackets and distressed jeans. Newsboy vintage hats and cardigans. There is just as much of a selection for young boys, as there is for their dads!

Suddenly there are also a variety of accessories for young boys as well. As mentioned, retro inspired hats, hounds tooth scarves, and even more fashionable shoes. No more velcro for your boys! You can expect nice, leather like formal shoes, or fancy trainers.

Jeans are also having more of a selection. Out of elastic band wastes and into different dyes and cuts. Now there is as many choices for them as you have! There are embellishments such as patches and embroidery, and distressing with classic holes and stains. There are so many aspects of design going into children’s items, that some designers are specializing in designing solely just for the younger generation! No long will they have to suffer generic hand me downs, they can have their own sense of style and express their personality through fashion!

Retro fads are making a huge comeback and splash this season. Gone are last year’s earth shades, neutrals, and candy-colored solids. Spring 2009 is all about getting funky with some of yesteryear’s trends. Prints inspired by the 70s and the 80s are the comeback queens of spring trends.

To put a fresh spin to these trends for children, mix and match several shades of the same hue for that timeless tone-on-tone look. Patterns with colors in the same family go well with a solid color from that same family.

Another way to bring back the retro look for kids is to match complimentary colors. As a refresher, complimentary colors are a pair of colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel. Examples of these are blue and orange, purple and yellow, and red and green. Pick a pattern, such as yellow and white checks, and pair it with a solid in a complimentary color, which is purple in this case.

A basic way to get the retro look is by mixing the same kinds of colors with each other. For instance, warm colors go best with other warm colors, while cool colors go well with other cool colors. This also holds true for pastels going with other pastels and brights with other brights.

For a retro but unfussy look, you can never go wrong with mixing colors with neutrals and neutrals with other neutrals. Neutral shades are black, brown, denim, gray, tan, and white. (Contrary to popular belief, brown and black can go together.) Another fun way to do this is by mixing neutrals with patterns.

A long time ago, it was practically a sin to pair certain colors because they were viewed as being clashing shades. For instance, red and pink together were a fashion no-no. However, the increasingly-popular retro trends have thrown this way of thinking aside. To be sure to bring together clashing shades, unite these colors with a neutral. For example, red and pink look really good with white.

There is very little else you need to do to make your adorable toddlers look anymore adorable. Just one look at your adorable and precocious toddlers and people can’t help but cast an approving look at you. Dressing up your little tykes in the current trends are not all that hard. Manufacturers of children’s fashion come up with stylish designs that are age-appropriate. From onesies and denim overalls to dressy Sunday clothes and fancy holiday gowns, there is bound to be several pieces that will catch your fancy.

Brand name clothes and designer labels have clothing lines for all age segments, toddlers and children’s wear included. A visit to any clothing store or even your department store can get you updated on the latest in children’s fashion. These stores also carry a range of children’s fashion from pricey labels down to bargains. While parents usually spend more for their children’s clothes than they do for their own, spending a fortune on children’s clothes is not often advisable. It would be good to buy a few pieces at a time as they outgrow their clothes in a short span of time. Unless you are willing to have your child wear a shirt that is about three sizes bigger than his actual size, you have to be prepared to revisit and restock his wardrobe on a regular basis during his growing years not so much as to keep him stylish as to get clothes that is right for his age and size.

In buying clothes for your little tykes, style and cost are not the only considerations. Especially if you are buying for toddlers and playschool age kids, you have to make sure that the clothes you choose to buy are comfortable in style and material. Your kids are not likely to choose to wear particular articles of clothing because they are stylish. Their choice at this age will most likely be dictated by what they feel comfortable in and, of course, their color preference.

Children’s fashion was so pink and so blue in the past. Nevertheless, with the continuous transformation of these trends, the girlish and boyish styles become more of handy and practical lines of clothing. These days, kids can go everywhere and do everything they want to do in functional style clothes. What parents need to do is make use of versatile finds creatively and expand their children’s closet to the max.

With functionality as one of the key trends in children’s fashion, everyday basics can become refreshingly charming and good-looking pieces when matched with both boyish and girlish prints and hues. Its school boys and girls fashion sense made for the streets, making it infinitely more pleasing to the eyes.

Layered

This is one fashion statement that can never go wrong especially on children. It can be a walk in a flowery park for young girls wearing pastel hues sophisticatedly layered up to a floral top. Conversely, it can be casually refined with button down polo hiding in a sporty silhouette for young boys. Hoods with sleeved top underneath are also perfect layered pieces.

Worn Alone

It’s important to pick pieces in androgynous patterns such as plaid, checks and pinstripe – this makes up an easy ensemble to match and wear together. Cargo pants, a pinstriped dress, a suit jacket and wide leg trousers can be worn alone, yet still exhibits the same stylishness as layered ones.

In a nutshell

Whether layered or worn alone, it’s imperative that children should be comfortable in whatever they wear. At the end of the day, it’s not the latest trend that truly matters, its how practical and wearable these fashionable pieces are.
